Interview with Catherine Applegate
Seanna Marceaux - School of Family and Consumer Sciences Rising Star
Seanna Marceaux, Vice President of Nutrition, Health, and Impact at Meals on Wheels of Central Texas
Seanna is a triple FCS alumna, completing her BS in 2007, her dietetic internship is 2008, and her Master’s in 2012. In her work as the Vice President of Nutrition, Health, and Impact at Meals on Wheels of Central Texas, Seanna has spearheaded the development of data analytics, promoting data-driven decision-making across the agency. Based on her thesis work with Drs. BJ Friedman and Sylvia Crixell, she implemented two novel screening instruments for her client population demonstrating program efficacy and supporting program growth. Seanna is currently participating in two healthcare interventions to address broad community health drivers and implementing the first CAPABLE (Community Aging in Place, Advancing Better Living for Elders) program in Texas to help low-income seniors safely age in place. She is the recipient of a number of awards, including the Innovations in Dietetics Practice and Education award from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Seanna serves as a preceptor for the Texas State Dietetic Internship, and last year, was our national nominee for Outstanding Preceptor.

Colton Scott, an MS in Human Nutrition thesis student was recently chosen for the Outstanding Graduate Research Award for Masters Students by the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior. For his thesis work, Colton’s is investigating the development of a WIC Chatbot under the direction of Sylvia Crixell and Lesli Biediger-Friedman. His work is funded by a grant from Texas WIC.

Armando Olivas, Kasandra Perez and Megan Zamora, all NUTR MS students, were named Caminos Fellows for their performance in the Caminos Thesis Competition in Food and Agricultural Sciences. The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) in partnership with Texas State, promotes the annual Caminos Thesis Competition. Competitors' theses are evaluated based on depth of research analysis, methodology and relativity to current global issues.

Visit, meet students and faculty, and tour our facilities!
Friday, Oct. 26th 5:30-7:30: research poster session during which you can meet current students, the graduate faculty, and learn about what types of Nutrition research are being conducted at Texas State University.
Saturday, Oct. 27th, 1:30-3:30: presentations from the Graduate Program Coordinators and a Q&A session with students and faculty, laboratory tours.
Students from underrepresented minorities are eligible to apply for GEMS. Additional GEMS sessions will be held Saturday morning. For more information on GEMS please contact Dr. Olivia Johnson (Olivia.Johnson@txstate.edu).

Featured Graduate Student: Lindsey Menge
Lindsey received her B.A. from UT Austin in 2008. Lindsey’s interest in nutrition began at an early age when her family decided to make healthy lifestyle changes together as a team, and was strengthened after she lost her niece due to a premature birth and rare heart condition. To pursue a comprehensive education in nutrition with the ultimate goal of helping children and families, Lindsey enrolled in the M.S. in Human Nutrition at Texas State.
